a painful reminder of living in OKC right now is you can’t start a conversation with, “do you know _____?” people will assume awful news.

so even in the midst of friendly dialogue the air is heavy. i mean. life goes on without much interruption because most of us are fine—unaffected except for the hurt that this whole community feels.

i know teachers who lost their classrooms. a good chuck of my classroom, even after only one year, is my personal stuff. so i imagine career teachers have lost half of what they own even if their home was safe.

i don’t know how to best articulate my feelings and my experience this afternoon. it’s exhausting to be a rock that 450 lives depend on to stay fixed to the ground. without feeling secure myself.

i monitored a saferoom of third graders and students with special needs. the only news i got was from tweets. it took everything in me to keep it together when reading things like “two and a quarter miles wide” and “elementary school leveled.” there was no reliable cell. the storm was so close.

i am home now. i don’t have to keep it together.

plot twist: yahoo buys tumblr and we get proper blocking features, lockable posts, a sent folder in messages/fanmail with a better interface, ability to search multiple tags, removal of the post and message limits, proper search engines for likes/archives and removing that bloody "reblog as a link" option.
